In Hout Bay, too many learners are falling behind in class... afraid to ask questions, with no one to guide them.
JSC Academy exists to change that.
We provide affordable tutoring, safe spaces to learn, and patient tutors who won’t stop until every learner understands.
Right now, 25 students are part of our program… but we have the capacity to reach 100.
With your help, we can pay our tutors fairly, provide essential learning tools, and give every learner the confidence to succeed in school and in life.
Our Story
My name is Grashum, and I know what it feels like to sit in a classroom and fall behind.
When I was in school, I didn’t have anyone to turn to when I didn’t understand something. I was too afraid to ask questions, and often the teacher moved ahead with the fast learners while the rest of us were left behind. That experience never left me.That’s why I started JSC Academy (Just Show Care) here in Hout Bay.
At JSC Academy, we believe that every learner deserves a fair chance to succeed – not just the confident ones in the front row. We create a safe space where students can ask questions again and again until they finally get it. We focus especially on mathematics, because we know that strong foundations in math can change the course of a child’s education.But our vision goes beyond academics. We want learners to love learning, to believe in themselves, to grow in confidence, and to dream about a bigger future.
The Specifics
To run JSC Academy successfully, we need funding for:
Tutor stipends (fair pay for 10 tutors: R2,000–R3,000 each per month)
Stationery & learning supplies (notebooks, calculators, pens, folders, whiteboards)
Transport costs (getting tutors and learners safely to sessions)
Snacks & refreshments for learners
Space & furniture (tables, chairs, boards)Right now, we bring in about R7,500 per month from learner fees (R300–R500 per month per student). But this is not enough to cover the true costs. We need R70,000–R150,000 in funding to expand fully and serve 100 learners well.
